About Us

Oral health in the Upper Valley is an unexposed difficulty in the Upper Valley. On the surface, people do not seem to have much awareness of the acute needs, but when asked about the topic, almost everyone has a story about a friend, a neighbor, or a family member who could not afford needed dental care, often in painful circumstances. If we raise awareness, by collecting and distributing our stories, over time we hope to build community support needed to better address the issue. Messages that raise public awareness often also contain valuable prevention and educational messages about oral health.

The Upper Valley Oral Health Coalition (UVOralHealth), formerly the Community Oral Health Initiative of the Upper Valley,  is a group of Upper Valley residents who have each recognized the importance of oral health in their own work. Drawing upon the knowledge of practicing dentists, directors of local health foundations and community health workers, UVOralHealth members discuss the most pressing oral health access and advocacy issues currently facing their communities. Members carefully consider the oral health needs of their communities and brainstorm potential opportunities to address those needs. UVOralHealth has been in existence for 7 years and continues to provide its members with an open forum in which to consider oral health’s importance to the overall health of Upper Valley residents.
